Family trips succeed or fail on pacing rather than on the itinerary. Children absorb travel days, heat and queues far less well than adults, and a plan that would be comfortable for two people is often too dense for four. A workable pattern is one substantial activity a day, a base held for several nights, and time built in that is unstructured by design rather than by accident.

Practical details vary between destinations and are worth checking specifically: whether cots and family rooms are common or need requesting far ahead, how car seats are handled by taxis and rental firms, whether pavements and public transport accommodate a pushchair, and what age thresholds apply for free or reduced entry. Mealtimes are a frequent friction point, since dinner service in some countries begins later than many children can manage, and lunch is the main meal of the day.

Health and documentation planning is different with children. Check routine and travel vaccination requirements well in advance, understand what the nearest medical facilities look like, and confirm that insurance covers the whole party including any pre-existing conditions. Some countries require evidence of parental consent when a child travels with one parent or with other adults, and those rules are enforced at the border.
