Phuket Family Travel Guide 2025
Everything families need to know for a successful trip to Phuket with kids.
Phuket is Thailand's largest island and most visited province, set in the warm Andaman Sea off the west coast of the Thai-Malay Peninsula. Renowned for its powdery white-sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters, vibrant nightlife, and rich Sino-Portuguese cultural heritage, Phuket draws millions of visitors each year. From the buzzing strip of Patong Beach to the serene shores of Nai Harn, the colonial shophouses of Phuket Old Town to the towering white marble Big Buddha statue, the island offers something for every traveller.
Top Family Activities
The best experiences for families in Phuket.
Phuket Aquarium
A government-run aquarium at Cape Panwa showcasing Andaman Sea marine life including coral reef fish, sea turtles, sharks, and rays. A touch pool allows children to handle starfish and sea cucumbers under supervision. Small but educational and very affordable.
Splash Jungle Waterpark
Phuket's main water park, located near Nai Yang Beach and Phuket Airport on the north of the island. Features wave pool, lazy river, water slides (including enclosed tube slides), a play area for toddlers, and food outlets. A full-day family activity.
Elephant Sanctuary Phuket
An ethical elephant rescue centre where retired working elephants live in a semi-wild jungle setting. Visitors can feed, bathe, and walk alongside the elephants without riding them. Educational, emotional, and deeply memorable for children who love animals. One of the most responsible wildlife activities in Thailand.
Tiger Kingdom Phuket
A wildlife facility where visitors can enter enclosures with tigers ranging from cubs to full-grown adults. Very popular with families and children. Multiple enclosure packages available. Note: animal welfare practices are debated — research before visiting.
Phuket Fantasea / Carnival Magic
A large entertainment park on Kamala Beach with rides, games, a buffet restaurant, and a spectacular 3,000-seat evening show featuring live elephants, acrobats, and Thai mythology. A classic family evening out. The park/show combination runs 4–5 hours.
Snorkelling at Kata Beach and Coral Island
Kata Beach has a shallow coral reef at its southern end ideal for beginner snorkellers and families. For a full snorkelling experience, a boat trip to Ko Hae (Coral Island) just south of Phuket (20 minutes from Chalong Pier) offers clear, calm water with abundant reef fish.
Gibbon Rehabilitation Project
A conservation centre in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park rescuing gibbons from the tourist trade and reintroducing them to the wild. Visitors can observe the rehabilitation process and learn about gibbon conservation. Highly educational and emotional — hearing wild gibbons call in the jungle is unforgettable.
