How our guides are created
Guides on Open Travel Guide are produced by our editorial team using AI research and drafting tools, and pass through our editorial quality pipeline before publication.
Our editors use pen names for privacy. This is a common practice in trade and specialist publishing; editorial accountability sits with our Editor-in-Chief, Daniel Mercer.
AI assists our team in covering destinations at breadth. Every guide passes a multi-stage review pipeline — source verification, factual-grounding checks, and quality screening — under the supervision and accountability of our Editor-in-Chief, who is named on every page.
Each guide shows the editor responsible for its coverage area and the date of last substantive review.
When destination facts change — prices, opening hours, transport routes — we re-verify and update affected guides.
Our editorial standards
- Verifiable facts only. Prices, opening hours, and transport details must trace to checkable sources. When a fact cannot be verified, the guide says less, plainly, rather than more, vaguely.
- Dated claims. Every guide carries the date of its last substantive review, visible next to the editor's name.
- No fabricated authority. Our editors' biographies describe their coverage areas and methods — never invented credentials. We do not use stock or AI-generated portrait photography.
- Affiliate transparency. Some guides contain affiliate links, marked with sponsored link attributes and disclosed in our disclaimer. Recommendations are never sold.
