A man-made lake north of the old city with the Jal Mahal water palace at its centre. The promenade is for walking and photography; swimming is not allowed.
Man Sagar Lake is not a beach; it is a shallow reservoir created by damming the Dharbawati river and sits beside the Amer road, about 6 km north of the old city. The shore is a paved promenade with stalls rather than sand, and the water is calm, green and unsuitable for bathing. Jal Mahal, the palace in the middle of the lake, is closed to visitors and viewed from the shore. The promenade is the nearest thing Jaipur has to a seafront, particularly at sunrise and sunset, when walkers, photographers and camel handlers gather. Birdlife includes migrant ducks and herons in winter. The area is free to enter.
