Sabarmati Riverfront at Sunset

  • Best timeThe hour before sunset, then blue hour
  • LightingWarm light on the water at sunset; haze in winter softens the sky
  • Best seasonOctober to March

The Sabarmati Riverfront is an engineered promenade of about 11 km on each bank of the river, with open sky over the water, several bridges and gardens. It is one of the few places in Ahmedabad with a wide horizon, so sunsets and cloud shapes are easily photographed. Silhouettes of joggers, cyclists and kite-flyers work well, and long lenses stacking the bridges give depth.

A wide river promenade and open sky over the Sabarmati where sunset light reflects on the water, with bridges and the old city as backdrops. Good for skyline and silhouettes.

The lower promenade is closer to the water and has reflections when the river is full; the water level and smell vary by season. Access is free and the promenade is lit in the evening. In the monsoon it can be closed for river releases. The Flower Park and Atal Bridge are within walking distance for varied subjects.
