Ahmedabad is Gujarat's largest city and India's first UNESCO World Heritage City (2017), a Sabarmati River metropolis where the walled Old City's carved-wood pols, Sultanate-era mosques, and Gandhi's Sabarmati Ashram sit alongside a fast-growing metro, riverfront promenades, and one of India's best vegetarian food cultures.

Getting there
Transport options for day trips.
- Tours
- Organised day tours cover Adalaj and Gandhinagar, Modhera-Patan-Sidhpur, and Nal Sarovar, typically from ₹3,000 (approx $31 USD) per person for small-group departures, with private options costing more.
- Private
- A private car with an English-speaking driver is the most flexible option and costs about ₹2,500-5,000 (approx $26-52 USD) for a local day and ₹4,000-8,000 (approx $42-83 USD) for a long one such as Patan, Champaner or the Statue of Unity.
- Public
- Indian Railways and Vande Bharat trains are the best public option for Vadodara and Gandhinagar. The metro reaches Gandhinagar and Akshardham. GSRTC buses go to Patan, Mehsana, Sanand and Kevadia but usually need onward local transport.
- Rental
- Self-drive rentals start around ₹1,800 (approx $19 USD) per day plus fuel. Highways to Gandhinagar, Vadodara and Mehsana are good, but rural roads to Lothal, Nal Sarovar and the Rann have limited signage, and a driver is usually easier.
