A circular 15th-century lake with a promenade, a central island pavilion and the lakefront's rides and food stalls. Sunset and evening lights give lively and colourful images.
Kankaria Lake is a roughly 2 km circular lake built in the 15th century, now ringed by a promenade with gardens, a zoo, boating, rides and a central island pavilion called Nagina Wadi. The lake is at its most photogenic in the last hour of daylight, when families crowd the promenade and the water reflects the sky, and after dark, when the ride lights create colour. Street food stalls, balloon sellers and the atmosphere give many candid subjects. The lakefront has entry fees at some attractions, and the promenade has a small entry charge in the evenings on some days, so this should be confirmed. The Kankaria Carnival in late December is a peak period with cultural programmes. The lake is in the south-east, so a cab or auto-rickshaw is needed from the old city.
