- The Basque Country has no venomous snakes dangerous to humans; wild boar are present but rarely encountered on popular trails
- Mist can descend quickly on mountain summits — carry a map/GPS and inform someone of your route
- Hunting season (October–February) is active in woodland areas — stick to marked trails and wear bright clothing
