Mohenjo-daro Ruins Walk

Mohenjo-daro lies about 28km from Larkana city in Larkana District, Sindh, on the west bank of the Indus River, and is reached by car or taxi from Larkana or Sukkur along paved roads; an entry ticket is required at the site gate, with an additional small fee for camera use. The walk itself covers about 2-3km on flat ground across the Indus floodplain, passing through the excavated lower town streets, the Great Bath, and up onto the citadel mound, which rises roughly 12m above the surrounding excavation. The surface is packed earth and low excavated brick walls throughout, with essentially no technical difficulty, though footing among the ruins requires some care. There is almost no shade anywhere on site, and the open floodplain setting means summer heat is extreme and best avoided. Key landmarks along the route include the Great Bath, one of the earliest known public water tanks in the world, the granary structures, the assembly hall, and the citadel mound offering views over the wider archaeological site and surrounding fields; most visitors complete a loop covering all the main excavated areas within the stated distance. There is a small on-site museum and toilets near the entrance, but no shelter or water sources within the excavation itself, so water should be carried while walking the ruins.
