The Caves of Hercules are a sea-carved cavern on the Atlantic coast near Cape Spartel, about 14 kilometres west of central Tangier. In Greek and Roman legend Hercules rested in the cave before completing his twelfth labour, and the legend ties the place to the Pillars of Hercules at the Strait of Gibraltar. The cave has two openings: a land entrance and a sea-facing opening whose outline resembles a map of Africa when seen from inside.

Craftsmen quarried millstones from the walls for centuries, and the tool marks are visible on the roof. The site is run as a small paid attraction with local guides and a row of souvenir stalls and tea stands outside. The nearby Achakar beach and the Cape Spartel lighthouse make it easy to combine into a half-day trip from the city.
