Achakar Beach is a long Atlantic beach below Cape Spartel, a short distance from the Caves of Hercules, with golden sand, strong waves and low dunes backed by pine forest. The beach is quieter than the city beaches and is used by locals for walking, horse riding and surfing, although Atlantic surf and currents make swimming risky on rough days. Seasonal restaurants and tea stands near the road serve grilled fish and tagines in summer. It combines easily with the caves and the cape in a half-day trip.
