Yudanaka Onsen Yorozuya

Yudanaka Onsen Yorozuya is a long-established ryokan in Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi, at the terminus of the Nagano Electric Railway's Yudanaka Line from Nagano City — approximately 45 minutes from Nagano Station to Yudanaka Station. The inn stands roughly 400 metres uphill from the station on the slope of the onsen district, surrounded by persimmon trees, bamboo groves, and private garden paths maintained through the property's multi-generational history. Yorozuya is among the oldest and most architecturally complete ryokan in the Yudanaka-Shibu Onsen valley; the main building dates to the Meiji period and features curved clay-tile rooflines, carved wooden transoms (ranma) above doorways, and a scroll-hung reception hall with a traditional iron kettle suspended over a charcoal brazier that remains active through the winter months. Guest rooms range from smaller four-and-a-half mat tatami rooms to larger eight-mat rooms with private corridor gardens; a limited number of Western-bed annexe rooms are available for guests who prefer not to sleep on futon. Kaiseki dinners showcase seasonal Nagano produce through the year — spring mountain vegetables (sansai), summer sweetfish (ayu) from nearby rivers, autumn mushrooms and chestnuts, winter hot pots with Shinshu wagyu from highland farms — and are composed by an in-house chef trained in Kyoto culinary traditions. Three distinct indoor and outdoor hot spring baths use the mildly alkaline sodium-bicarbonate waters that characterise Yudanaka Onsen and are said to leave the skin notably smooth. A private garden path is available for quiet morning walks. The concierge coordinates transport to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, approximately 20 minutes by community bus or taxi. No pool or gym is maintained on-site.
