A countryside walk around the hills and the dam shore of Ramgarh, with birds in the cooler months.
Ramgarh Lake is a dam reservoir about 30 km north-east of Jaipur, built in 1903 as the city's drinking-water source, set among the Jamwa Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary hills. Water levels have fallen sharply in recent decades and the lake can be nearly dry in many years, so the visit is about the countryside and temple-and-fort ruins rather than a swim or boat ride. Walkers follow tracks on the dam wall and the surrounding scrub for birds such as peafowl and, after good monsoons, waterfowl. Forest department rules apply inside the sanctuary and entry fees, where charged, are modest. A car is needed to reach the area.
