Île Saint-Honorat, the smaller and southernmost of the Lérins Islands, is roughly 1.5 km long and 400 m wide and is still home to the Cistercian monks of Lérins Abbey, who have lived here since the early 5th century. A circular path of about 3 km hugs the coast, passing the 11th-century fortified monastery on the south shore, small chapels including the Chapelle de la Trinité and the Chapelle Saint-Sauveur, and the walled vineyards from which the monks make wine and liqueurs. The terrain is flat with a mix of paved and gravel surfaces. The island is a place of prayer, so visitors are asked to dress modestly, keep silent near the abbey and stay on marked paths. Swimming is restricted to marked areas. The ferry from Quai Laubeuf takes about 15 minutes and operates through the year. A visit can be extended with lunch at the island restaurant or a tasting of the abbey wines.
