Dubrovnik is a walled city on Croatia's southern Adriatic coast, home to about 41,500 people. Its car-free Old Town (Stari Grad), a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, is ringed by nearly 2 km of medieval walls and sits beside clear swimming coves, Lokrum island and the Elafiti islands.
Accommodation overview
Dubrovnik's rooms fall into a few distinct zones. Inside the Old Town walls there are a handful of boutique hotels and hostels reached only on foot and up steps; Pile and Ploče on either side of the walls hold the Hilton Imperial, the Excelsior, Villa Dubrovnik and Grand Villa Argentina within 5-15 minutes' walk of the gates. The Lapad and Babin Kuk peninsulas, 4-5 km west and linked by Libertas buses 4 and 6, have most of the beach hotels and resorts; Gruž around the ferry port and bus station suits island day trips; and Boninovo/Montovjerna west of Pile has clifftop hotels such as Bellevue and Rixos Premium. Further out, Orašac (Sun Gardens) and the Elafiti island of Koločep offer resort stays. Rates run from about €18-55 (~$21-63) for a hostel dorm bed or the cheapest guesthouse room to €350-1,200 (~$403-1,380) for a top luxury room in summer, falling sharply from November to March.

- Mid-range
- €60-350 (~$69-403) per night (2-4 star hotels, aparthotels and guesthouses in Lapad, Babin Kuk, Gruž and Pile)
- Luxury

Check rates on Booking.comBooking tips
Get the best deals and avoid common mistakes.
Book Dubrovnik 2-3 months ahead for June to September and the Dubrovnik Summer Festival (10 July-25 August); the Old Town and Ploče sell out first
Check the exact entrance of any Old Town stay: all lanes are stepped and pedestrian-only, and taxis stop at the Pile or Ploče gates
Libertas buses 4 and 6 link Pile with Lapad and Babin Kuk in about 20 minutes; a single ticket is €1.73 (~$1.99) at kiosks or €2.50 (~$2.88) cash on board
Several smaller properties close in winter (Prijeko Palace from mid-November to February, Hostel Sol 1 November-31 March, Hotel Zagreb from November to early March), so confirm opening dates for October to March
Tourist tax is added at the property: €2.65 per adult per night from 1 April to 30 September and €1.85 from 1 October to 31 March
Rates fall sharply from November to March, when five-star hotels can cost a fraction of their summer rates
Hotels on Lapad and Babin Kuk usually include pools and beach access, which can offset the daily bus ride to the Old Town
Cars cannot enter the Old Town; if driving, choose a hotel with parking in Gruž, Lapad or Pile and confirm the nightly fee
