Goods here skew toward everyday domestic brands and budget fashion rather than luxury or imported labels, with a mix of authentic branded stock in the department store and looser, unbranded merchandise in the surrounding street-level shops. Bargaining is common and expected in the independent stalls and small shops, though the department store and supermarkets operate at fixed prices; payment is accepted in cash or via mobile apps, with cards less universally used than in newer malls, and there is no tax-refund counter in this district. The square and surrounding streets draw a dense local crowd, especially office workers and families in the evening, and the area is thick with small eateries, snack vendors, and fast-food chains rather than sit-down dining. As a mixed retail district rather than a single building, the area's must-visit corners are the pedestrian stretch directly around Chaoyang Square itself and the underground shopping arcade near the Nanning railway station end, both of which concentrate the highest density of small shops. It is a short walk or taxi ride from Zhongshan Road Snack Street, making the two easy to combine on one outing.
