The Zhongshan Road Snack Street Evening Food Walk is a self-guided route along the pedestrianised section of Zhongshan Road near Chaoyang Square in central Nanning, Guangxi. There is no formal tour operator or booking desk; visitors simply walk the street and pay stall by stall, which is how the route has worked since the strip became the city's best-known night snack market decades ago. The walk covers roughly five to six stops over 2-3 hours, starting with a bowl of laoyou fen, Nanning's signature sour-and-spicy rice noodle, at one of the long-running counters near the street's entrance. From there the route moves toward the savoury-heavy middle section: charcoal-grilled oysters at around ¥10 for five or six, then stir-fried river snails or a snail-and-duck-foot claypot, both regional specialties built on Guangxi's use of fermented sour bamboo shoot and chilli. The walk closes on the sweet side with a cup of suanye pickled fruit and a bowl of sesame or peanut paste dessert. Total spend runs ¥40-90 per person depending on appetite. Nothing beyond the food itself is included; there is no transit, drink package, or guide fee, since visitors order and pay directly at each stall in cash or via mobile payment. Group size is unrestricted since it is a walk-and-eat format rather than a booked tour, and it suits both solo visitors and groups of four to six comfortably, though larger groups may need to split at counter seating. Stall vendors generally speak Mandarin or the local Guangxi dialect only, with little English signage, so pointing at dishes or photos is the practical way to order. Dietary substitutions are not available in the usual sense, since each stall cooks a fixed small menu, but vegetarians can stick to the pickled fruit, sesame paste and taro-based snacks and skip the meat and seafood stalls entirely.
