The Three Streets and Two Alleys Old Town Food Route is a self-guided walk through the restored Jinshi Lane heritage quarter, known locally as Sansanliangxiang, in Xingning District, Nanning. There is no formal operator running the route; it is a walk through a conserved block of shophouses that the city restored as a heritage and food district, and visitors move through it independently, paying at each stop. The walk runs 2-3 hours and covers roughly four stops, beginning with a walk through Jinshi Lane itself, recognised as the oldest surviving street in Nanning's old town. Snack stops along the shophouse-lined lane include fenjiao dumplings, taro cake and rice rolls, giving the route a savoury-leaning start. A signature stop is a bowl of laoyou fen, the sour-spicy rice noodle dish that local tradition traces to a teahouse once located in this same quarter, tying the food directly to the neighbourhood's history. The route then continues a ten-minute walk onward to the Zhongshan Road snack street for a second sitting, effectively linking two of Nanning's best-known food districts into one afternoon-to-evening route. Total spend runs ¥40-100 per person for the food; no transit, drinks package or guide fee is included, since the walk is self-directed and cash- or mobile-pay-based. Group size is flexible given the walk-and-eat format, though narrow lane seating can make it awkward for groups larger than five or six to sit together. Vendors mostly speak Mandarin or the local dialect, and dietary substitutions are limited to choosing among the fixed snack-stall menus, with taro cake and rice rolls offering the easiest vegetarian-friendly stops.
