Bãi Cháy Beach

Bãi Cháy Beach is the main urban beach of Hạ Long City in Quảng Ninh Province, northern Vietnam, about 160 km from Hà Nội. It lies in the Bãi Cháy tourist district, close to the Bãi Cháy Bridge, the waterfront hotels and the cruise pier area. The beach is largely artificial, with sand brought in and shaped for tourism, and it forms a curved promenade-side strip facing Hạ Long Bay. Water quality varies with tides, weather and boat traffic, and the colour is often greenish to grey-brown, so it is better regarded as a convenient swim stop between cruise activities than as a pristine beach. The sea is calm and sheltered by the bay's islands, with little surf, and the shore is shallow near the edge. The vibe is that of a busy tourist waterfront, with hotel guests, domestic families and tour groups, and evening walks along the promenade. It is neither a surf beach nor a party beach, although hotels, bars and restaurants on the nearby streets keep the area lively after dark. Amenities include sunbed and umbrella rental, toilets and showers, and many nearby hotels and restaurants, where seafood is the local speciality. Lifeguard provision is seasonal and visitors should look for marked swimming zones. Access is easy. Limousine vans and buses run from Hà Nội to Bãi Cháy in roughly two and a half to three hours for about 150,000-300,000 VND, and most Hạ Long Bay cruise operators pick up from hotels in the district. Local taxis and ride-hailing cars link the beach with the Bãi Cháy cruise terminals, the cable car area and Hạ Long night market. Parking is available in the surrounding streets and hotel lots, though it fills up on summer weekends. For visitors who want cleaner water and quieter sand, the beaches on Tuần Châu Island or Cát Bà Island are commonly suggested alternatives.
