The Mirador de San Nicolás is a terrace outside the church of San Nicolás in the Albaicín, the old Moorish quarter of Granada, Andalusia, and it offers the most famous view of the Alhambra. At sunset the walls turn red-gold, with the snow of the Sierra Nevada rising behind them in winter and spring. The Albaicín is a hillside of whitewashed houses, walled gardens (cármenes) and narrow cobbled lanes, and its street plan dates largely to the Zirid and Nasrid periods. Together with the Alhambra it forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On a walk from the viewpoint, visitors pass the Plaza Larga, the Mirador de San Cristóbal, small convents and carmen restaurants. Buskers and craft sellers gather at the viewpoint in the evening. The walk through the quarter takes one to two hours, and the paths are steep, so flat shoes with grip are best. The minibuses C31 and C34 reach the area and run every few minutes during the day.
