Accommodation overview
Granada packs most of its accommodation into a few compact areas. The Albaicín and the Carrera del Darro lane beneath the Alhambra hold restored Moorish houses and small boutique hotels with steep cobbled access. The Plaza Nueva and Cuesta de Gomérez area is the most convenient base for walking up to the Alhambra, while the Centro around the Cathedral and Gran Vía de Colón has the widest choice of mid-range hotels, hostels and tapas bars. The Realejo, the former Jewish quarter, is quieter and more local, and the Alhambra hill itself has a handful of historic hotels including the Parador inside the monument grounds. Rates and Alhambra tickets are tightest in spring (Semana Santa, April to June) and autumn, so book rooms and tickets together. Many old-town streets are narrow, steep or restricted to residents' vehicles, so check luggage access and taxi drop-off points before arrival.
