Praia de Benagil

Praia de Benagil is a small, sheltered beach in the fishing hamlet of Benagil, best known as the departure point for boat and kayak tours to the nearby Benagil Sea Cave, one of the most photographed natural formations on the Algarve coast. The sand is fine and golden but the beach itself is modest in size, wedged between low cliffs in a narrow bay, and it can feel crowded in summer given the volume of visitors arriving for cave tours rather than to swim. The water is generally calm and clear close to shore, sheltered from the main Atlantic swell, though boat traffic in and out of the bay is near-constant in season. The atmosphere is busy and tour-oriented rather than relaxed, with kayak and boat operators, sunbathers, and day-trippers all sharing a small stretch of sand. Amenities include a beach bar, kayak rental, and several operators running short boat trips to the cave and along the coastline toward Marinha and Carvoeiro. There is no lifeguard cover confirmed for the beach outside peak periods, and swimmers should be cautious of boat traffic near the shore. Parking is available in a village car park a short walk from the sand, though it fills quickly on sunny days given the beach's popularity as a tour hub. Benagil village itself has a handful of cafés and restaurants a few minutes' walk from the beach. The cave itself is not accessible on foot and can only be reached by kayak, paddleboard, or boat tour, typically booked directly at the beach or in nearby Carvoeiro.
