Praia de Dona Ana

Praia de Dona Ana lies a short walk south of Lagos town, its calm, sheltered water enclosed by golden sandstone cliffs and freestanding rock stacks that make it one of the most photographed beaches in the western Algarve. Steps descend from a clifftop path to the sand, and the cove's layout of small coves separated by low rock outcrops gives visitors a choice of more secluded pockets of sand away from the main central stretch. A seasonal beach bar operates from spring through autumn, serving drinks and light meals, and lifeguards are on duty throughout the summer season, making the beach a reliable choice for families. A typical visit runs two to four hours, covering swimming, sunbathing, and a walk along the low cliff path connecting toward Praia do Camilo and Ponta da Piedade further south. The beach's proximity to Lagos, about a 15-minute walk from the old town, means it draws heavy day-trip traffic in summer, and its small clifftop car park fills quickly, so many visitors instead walk down from town or arrive early. Morning is the calmest time on the water, before boat traffic and the wind typical of Algarve afternoons picks up, and the golden cliffs are especially vivid in the soft early light.
