Adega do Isaias

Adega do Isaias occupies a genuine former wine cellar on Rua do Salvador in Évora's old town, a low-lit room with brick vaulting, wooden barrels stacked along the walls and simple communal-style tables. The crowd is a mix of locals and travellers of all ages, drawn as much for the traditional Alentejo cooking as the drink, and the feel is that of a rustic neighbourhood tavern rather than a polished bar; dress is casual and there is no dress code. Conversation and the clatter of a working kitchen provide the atmosphere rather than any soundtrack — there is no DJ, live band or programmed music. The drinks list is built around house wine drawn straight from the cask, red and white, poured simply and priced by the jug or glass, alongside a short selection of bottled Alentejo wines and regional beers; this is a cellar for house wine rather than a cocktail destination. Adega do Isaias opens Tuesday to Sunday from 7PM to 11PM, closed Mondays, with dinner service busiest between 8PM and 10PM on Friday and Saturday when tables fill quickly. There is no cover charge. Reservations are strongly advised for dinner on weekend evenings, since the cellar has limited seating and turns tables slowly around long, unhurried meals; walk-ins are more realistic on weeknights or by arriving right at opening. Bottle service and minimum spends do not apply; the wine is ordered by the jug or glass to accompany the food.
