Gdansk is Poland's Baltic gateway, a Hanseatic port city on the Motlawa river with a rebuilt Main Town of tall merchant houses, the Gdansk Crane and St. Mary's Basilica. The city of roughly 470,000 inhabitants anchors the Tricity with Sopot and Gdynia and is the birthplace of Solidarity.
