Clifton Beach

Clifton Beach sits on the Arabian Sea shore in the Clifton area of Karachi, Sindh, and is the most visited beach in the city. The shoreline is soft grey-brown sand that darkens toward the waterline, and the water itself runs murky rather than clear, carrying sediment and city runoff typical of a large coastal metropolis; it is not a swimming destination for most visitors. The beach is long and open, running for several kilometres along the Marine Promenade, fully exposed to onshore winds off the Arabian Sea with no coves or headlands to break the breeze, which keeps kite flying and camel rides popular even when the surf itself is unremarkable. The atmosphere is a busy, family-oriented city beach by day and a lively evening promenade after sunset, when Karachi families walk the seafront, children ride decorated camels and horses, and food carts sell corn, chaat, and grilled snacks; it is not a party or nightlife beach. Amenities are informal: there are no fixed sun loungers or beach cabanas, restrooms are limited and mostly attached to nearby restaurants, and there is no lifeguard-patrolled swimming zone, so entry into the water is at the visitor's own risk. Parking runs along Marine Promenade itself, and the beach is reachable by car, taxi, ride-hailing app, or local bus from anywhere in Karachi, making it the most accessible beach in Sindh. Visitors come primarily for the promenade experience, the camel and horse rides, and the amusement rides set up for children rather than for swimming or sunbathing, and the beach is at its most crowded on Sundays and public holidays in the cooler months from November to February.
