Playa Ventura

Playa Ventura sits about 150 km southeast of Acapulco in the municipality of Copala, a drive of roughly 2 to 2.5 hours along the coastal highway, with a rental car or private driver the most practical option given limited direct bus service. The destination is a small fishing village on Guerrero's less-developed southern coast, fronted by a long, largely undeveloped beach backed by a lagoon, without the large resorts found closer to Acapulco. A day here typically centers on the beach itself: a morning arrival leaves time for swimming and walking the open sand before the midday sun peaks, followed by a seafood lunch at one of the simple palapa restaurants along the shore, most serving the day's catch of fish, shrimp, or oysters. The adjoining lagoon offers calmer water for wading or a short boat outing to see local birdlife, a quieter alternative to the open ocean swell. Because the village has few formal attractions beyond the beach and lagoon, an afternoon can be spent simply relaxing at a palapa restaurant or walking the coastline toward the rockier points at either end of the bay. Given the distance and limited services along the route, the drive is best made during daylight hours, sticking to the main coastal highway rather than smaller side roads, and departing Acapulco by mid-morning allows a full afternoon at the beach before the return drive. The dry season from November through April brings calmer seas and more reliable daytime travel conditions, while the rainy season from June through October can bring heavier surf and occasional road delays.
