Sea Kayaking, Uradome Coast

Guided sea kayaking on the Uradome Coast departs from Ajiro Port and explores the coves, sea caves, and pine-covered islets that make up this stretch of coastline within San'in Kaigan National Park. Local outdoor operators based at the port run half-day tours covering 4–8 km of paddling, mixing open-water stretches with closer exploration of rock formations and cave entrances that are inaccessible from land. No prior kayaking experience is required, as guides paddle alongside the group and give a basic paddling and safety briefing at the start, but participants should be reasonably fit and comfortable being on the water for two to three hours, since the route involves sustained paddling rather than a leisurely drift. Kayak, paddle, and a life jacket are included; participants are expected to bring a waterproof bag for phones and valuables and a change of clothes, since getting wet from spray or a capsize is a normal part of the activity. Guides carry basic safety and rescue equipment for capsizes and monitor sea conditions before departure, cancelling or rerouting tours if swell or wind make the coastline unsafe. The tour season runs April through October, with May–June and September offering the calmest seas and fewer crowds than the peak summer months, when both boat traffic and tourist numbers on the coast increase.
