Washuzan Lookout

Washuzan Lookout occupies a hilltop in Tamano, on the Okayama coast, and looks out over the Seto Inland Sea to the Seto Ohashi Bridge, the roughly 13-kilometre chain of six bridges that has linked Honshu to Shikoku since 1988. The viewpoint sits within Setonaikai National Park and takes in a scattering of small islands in the strait alongside the bridge itself, with the best angle showing the full span crossing the water toward Shikoku. A short paved path from the parking area leads to the main observation point, and the visit itself, including a walk along the ridge to a secondary viewpoint, takes 30 to 60 minutes. Sunset is the most popular time to visit, when the bridge and islands silhouette against the color over the strait, though early morning offers similarly dramatic light with far fewer visitors and sometimes low cloud sitting in the channel below. The lookout draws a mix of day-trippers combining it with Naoshima ferry access at nearby Uno Port and local visitors arriving by car, with weekend evenings around sunset being the busiest period; weekday mornings are close to empty. A small cluster of gift shops and a rest area sit near the parking lot, and the lookout is a common stop for drivers crossing between Okayama and Shikoku on the parallel expressway.
