Noritake Garden

Noritake Garden is the heritage industrial campus of the Noritake Company — Japan's most celebrated porcelain manufacturer — set in Nishi Ward, Nagoya, a 5-minute walk from Nagoya Station. Founded in 1904, Noritake transformed a 70,000-square-metre site of former clay-processing facilities into a public cultural park blending industrial heritage, working craft, shopping, and dining in a coherent pedestrian environment. The campus centrepiece is the preserved Old Kiln, a National Heritage Structure from 1932 that rises over the central lawn as a monumental reminder of the industrial scale of historical porcelain production. The Craft Center building displays the complete production process from raw clay to finished decorated dinnerware, with live hand-painting and gilding demonstrations visible through glass panels on select days. Visitors can participate in a hand-painting workshop in the painting studio, decorating a pre-formed porcelain piece to take home — an experience popular with adults and children alike. The Welcome Center building houses a museum tracing Noritake's history from its origins as an export tableware supplier for Meiji-era Western markets to its current position as a global fine china brand. The on-site flagship shop carries discounted factory seconds and exclusive Noritake Garden editions not available elsewhere, making it a destination for tableware enthusiasts. A manicured central garden with seasonal planting connects the heritage buildings in an open-air setting suitable for a quiet interlude. The grounds are free to enter; only the Craft Center museum buildings charge admission. The site pairs naturally with the Toyota Commemorative Museum just 3 minutes away, forming a Nishi Ward industrial heritage half-day.
