Nagoya TV Tower and Hisaya Odori Park

Nagoya TV Tower is Japan's first completed broadcast tower, inaugurated in 1954, and stands 180 metres above the northern end of Hisaya Odori Park in Naka Ward, Nagoya, Aichi — the long, tree-lined boulevard that forms the central axis of the Sakae entertainment and retail district. The tower's steel lattice structure anchors one of central Nagoya's most recognisable views and has served as a civic landmark for seven decades. The observation deck sits at 100 metres and offers 360-degree views over the city: Nagoya Castle is visible to the northwest, the port and Ise Bay extend to the south, and on clear days the mountains of central Honshu define the distant horizon. The Sky Balcony — an outdoor section of the observation level — allows visitors to feel the open air and hear the city, a contrast to the enclosed interiors of most modern towers. Below the tower, Hisaya Odori Park was extensively redesigned in the early 2020s and now features landscaped terraces, open-air cafes, a small concert stage, and illuminated walkways extending south through the Sakae district. Evening visits after sunset are particularly atmospheric: the tower's illumination changes seasonally, and the park lighting below creates an animated nighttime environment popular with couples and strollers. Winter illuminations from December through February transform the park corridor and are among Nagoya's most celebrated seasonal light installations. A cafe on the lower levels serves drinks and light meals with partial city views. At ¥700 for adult observation access, the tower represents accessible value for a central Nagoya panoramic experience.
