Lago di Fiè (Völser Weiher)

Lago di Fiè, known in German as the Völser Weiher, is a small, idyllic lake set in green meadows at the foot of the Sciliar massif near the village of Fiè allo Sciliar, just below the famous Alpe di Siusi in South Tyrol. Despite its alpine altitude, the lake is fed and warmed in a way that makes it one of the warmer natural bathing spots in the high country, comfortably swimmable through the summer, and its setting — calm green water backed by the dramatic towers of the Sciliar — is among the most photogenic in the region. The lake has a natural bathing area with grassy lawns sloping to the shore, a lakeside inn and restaurant, and pedalo hire, giving it a relaxed, traditional character rather than the bustle of a large lido. It is especially popular with families, who combine gentle swimming and lakeside picnics with the easy walks and playgrounds of the surrounding meadows. The location is a great asset: Fiè allo Sciliar is the historic home of the South Tyrolean hay-bath cure, and the cable car and trails of the Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high-alpine meadow, are close by, so a swim pairs naturally with a hike or a traditional Heubad treatment. The lake sits within a protected natural area, and its tranquil, unspoilt feel is part of the appeal. In peak summer the lawns fill on hot days, but the lake retains a peaceful, rural atmosphere. For a warm, beautiful, family-friendly alpine swim beneath the Dolomites, the Völser Weiher is one of the loveliest spots in South Tyrol.
