Wilson Hills sits at roughly 750 m in the Sahyadri foothills above Dharampur in Valsad district, the far south of Gujarat, and it is the state's only genuine hill station. The plateau was developed under the Maharaja of Dharampur in the early 20th century and named for a British governor, and what remains is a scatter of viewpoints, a rest house and quiet metalled and dirt tracks running between them through teak and bamboo.

Gentle plateau and viewpoint walking on a green hill station above the Valsad coastal plain, with monsoon waterfalls, sunset points over the Arabian Sea haze and the Dharampur forest below.

The walking is easy rather than demanding: short circuits of two to six kilometres link the sunset point, the plateau edge and the forest tracks, with drops of only a few dozen metres. The rewards are climatic and visual. This is the wettest corner of Gujarat, and from July to September the escarpment runs with waterfalls, the air is a good ten degrees cooler than the Valsad plain, and low cloud drifts across the plateau. In the clear post-monsoon months, from October to February, the westward views reach over the coastal plain towards the Arabian Sea haze. Facilities are minimal, with a small number of food stalls near the main viewpoint and limited accommodation, so most visitors come up from Valsad or Dharampur for the day. The road up is narrow and winding and can be difficult in heavy rain. Because the hills lie within a forested tribal belt, walkers benefit from sticking to the marked roads and tracks, and the area pairs naturally with the Lady Wilson Museum in Dharampur town, which holds tribal artefacts from the surrounding Dangs and Valsad districts.
