Bhadra Fort sits at the heart of the Old City of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, beside Lal Darwaja. Sultan Ahmed Shah I raised the citadel in 1411 as the first fortified core of his new city on the Sabarmati. Within a few hundred metres of each other stand the Azam Khan Sarai, the Royal Square known as Bhadra Plaza, the Bhadrakali Temple and the triple-arched Teen Darwaza gateway, built around 1415.

Visitors typically start at the fort gate near the Lal Darwaja bus terminus and walk through the courtyard into the Royal Square, a large open space that once hosted court ceremonies and is now landscaped as a public plaza. The Azam Khan Sarai, a later Mughal-era rest house built for travellers, lines part of the complex, and its arched facade is a popular photo subject. The Bhadrakali Temple is a small shrine still in use for worship, and the goddess is considered a protector of the city. Teen Darwaza, the imposing three-arch gateway, stands just outside the fort on the road to Manek Chowk and can be viewed at any time. Its carved sandstone piers and ornate arches show the blend of Hindu and Islamic decoration typical of Gujarat Sultanate work. The best photographic angle is from the road, capturing all three arches with market activity in front. A visit lasts about an hour. The fort grounds are generally open during daylight hours, and entry is free. Mornings are quieter, before traffic and street vendors fill the surroundings, while evenings bring locals to the plaza. The area is part of the UNESCO-listed Historic City of Ahmedabad, and nearby Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, Jama Masjid and Manek Chowk are within a short walk.
