Neoria arsenals on the Old Venetian Harbour, Chania
Long vaulted arsenals where the Venetian fleet was built and repaired.
The Neoria are rows of vaulted arsenals along the east side of the harbour, built from the 16th century so that galleys could be hauled out and repaired under cover. They show the importance of La Canea as a naval base of the Republic of Venice. Several bays have been restored and are used for exhibitions and events, including a centre for Mediterranean architecture.
