Best Hotels in Chania 2026

Chania's accommodation, honestly tiered — what each budget level really buys, and where to base yourself.

Chania has 66+ hotels and places to stay covered in this guide, led by Hilton Chania Old Town Resort & Spa, Chania Flair Boutique Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton and SanSal Boutique Hotel. Each entry below includes the practical details — what it costs, when to go, and how to plan around it.

Chania (Chaniá) is the largest city of western Crete, a port of about 108,000 people with a Venetian harbour, an Ottoman-era Old Town and easy access to Samaria Gorge, Balos and Elafonisi.

Accommodation overview

Chania accommodation clusters in a handful of areas. The Old Town around the Venetian harbour, Topanas and Splantzia has boutique hotels in restored Venetian and Ottoman houses, all walkable to the lighthouse, the Municipal Market and the old shipyards. Nea Chora, just west of the Old Town, has budget hotels beside a city beach, while Chalepa to the east is a quieter former consular district with sea-view hotels along Venizelou Street. Westward along the coast road, Agii Apostoli, Kato Daratso, Kato Stalos and Agia Marina lead to the beach resort strip of Platanias, Gerani and Maleme, with adults-only and family resorts. Further west, Tavronitis and Kolymbari offer quieter resort stays near the Rodopou peninsula. East of town the Akrotiri peninsula holds Stavros and large new resorts near Chania airport, and to the east in Apokoronas the villages of Kalyves and Almyrida have small beach hotels. July and August are the busiest months; May-June and late September-October have milder weather and lower rates.

Booking tips

Get the best deals and avoid common mistakes.

Tip

Book 2-3 months ahead for July, August and Orthodox Easter week, when Old Town boutiques and the beach resorts fill first; compare free-cancellation rates on Booking.com or Hotels.com with the hotel's own site.

Tip

Choose the area by trip type: the Old Town or Nea Chora if relying on walking and buses; Platanias, Agia Marina or Kolymbari for a beach resort; a rental car is needed for Almyrida, Kalyves and the Akrotiri resorts.

Tip

Greek hotels add a per-night climate resilience fee paid on arrival; it is often not in the listed rate, so confirm the amount before booking.

Tip

Chania airport (CHQ) is on the Akrotiri peninsula about 14 km from the Old Town; taxis and the airport bus run to the centre, and some resorts offer transfers, so check before booking.

Tip

Light sleepers should ask for an upper-floor or back room in the Old Town, where harbour bars and lane restaurants stay busy late in summer.

Tip

Many Old Town hotels sit in pedestrian lanes with steps and no lift; luggage is usually carried the last few hundred metres, so ask about arrival access and cobbles.

Tip

Several resorts, including Domes Noruz, Myrion, Atlantica Kalliston, Chania Flair and Aulus, are adults-only; families should check the age policy before booking.

Tip

Many beach resorts close from November to March, so for a winter trip look at the Old Town, Nea Chora and Chalepa, where hotels stay open year round.

Tip

Hostel dorm beds at Cocoon City Hostel and Kumba Hostel typically cost under EUR 45 in season; confirm late check-in if arriving on a night flight or ferry.
