Shaded 19th-century public park on the edge of the Old Town, popular with local families.
The Chania Public Garden is a shaded park laid out in the 19th century on the edge of the Old Town, near the Tzanakaki Street area. It has tall trees, benches, a small cafe and a children's playground, and is a popular place for locals to rest in the heat of the afternoon. A small zoo with Cretan wild goats (kri-kri) was historically kept in the garden. It is a quiet counterpoint to the busy harbour, and an easy break between the market and the museum area. Entry is free and the garden is open from morning until evening.
