Sormiou is the largest and most popular of the Marseille calanques, with a pebble beach and a seasonal hamlet of fishing cabins. The Parc national des Calanques describes the Col de Sormiou route from the Cayolle bus stop as the shortest way in: 2.8 km one way, about 1 hour, with about 100 m of climb, rated medium. Walkers can follow the paved track the whole way or take the marked path. The way back climbs the same slope and is tiring in summer. The car road to Sormiou is regulated: in spring 2026 the City of Marseille closed the roads to Sormiou, Morgiou and Callelongue to cars from 7:00 to 19:00 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays between 4 April and 3 May, and the summer calendar is set by municipal order each year, so walking or the bus is the dependable choice. From 1 June to 30 September the prefecture fire map decides whether the massif is open. The route is very exposed to sun.
