Plage de Talloires

Plage de Talloires sits within the sheltered bay of Talloires on the south-eastern shore of Lac d'Annecy, 12 kilometres from Annecy via the winding D909. The beach is a mix of fine shingle, grass, and small pebble, set against a backdrop of steep limestone cliffs and Alpine forest that makes it one of the most visually dramatic lake settings in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The bay at Talloires is naturally protected from prevailing winds, resulting in exceptionally calm, glassy water conditions on most summer days. Water clarity in this southern section of Lac d'Annecy is outstanding: the pale gravel lake bed is clearly visible at several metres depth, and the absence of motorised boats — banned from the lake — ensures the surface remains undisturbed and the water exceptionally pure. Snorkelling over the clean lake floor is a popular activity, with visibility often extending to four or five metres over a gravel and small-rock bed. The beach itself is quieter and more intimate than the city beaches to the north, attracting couples, confident swimmers, and visitors staying at the village's celebrated lakeside hotels and restaurants. Talloires village has several waterfront restaurants within a short walk, and small boat hire is available seasonally nearby. There are no formal lifeguards or supervised zone at the beach, giving the spot a relaxed, self-directed character suited to experienced swimmers. Water temperature reaches 20–22°C in late July and the shallows warm slightly faster in afternoon sun. Arriving by boat is one of the highlights of a visit: the Compagnie des Bateaux du Lac d'Annecy runs a regular summer service from Annecy's main landing stage at approximately €9.10 one-way, and the crossing reveals the lake's full Alpine grandeur. By car, the D909 hugs the eastern shore through a series of tight bends; the east lake cycling circuit also reaches Talloires, though the route involves some gradient.
