A striking public library in the Binhai New Area, internationally famous for its cavernous atrium lined with sweeping, wave-like bookshelf terraces surrounding a spherical auditorium. Designed by Dutch firm MVRDV and completed in 2017, it has become one of the most photographed libraries in the world.

Tianjin Binhai Library opened in October 2017 as part of a larger cultural complex in the Binhai New Area, Tianjin's coastal development zone. Dutch architecture firm MVRDV designed the building's dramatic interior, in which curved terraces of shelving rise five stories around a mirrored spherical auditorium nicknamed 'the eye', creating an illusion of infinite shelving space. The design went viral internationally soon after opening, drawing large numbers of visitors more interested in photography than reading, which the library has managed by keeping much of the collection circulation on more conventional lower floors.
