Xinglong Lake Wetland Park

Xinglong Lake Wetland Park lies in Tianfu New Area, southern Chengdu, near Chengdu Science City, and was reopened to the public in 2021 following a full ecological restoration of the wetland. The lake edge is a restored natural wetland rather than a sand or pebble beach, bordered by boardwalks and open lawns rather than a bathing shore, and swimming is not part of the park's use. The restoration replaced what had been a heavily silted body of water with reed beds, aquatic plantings, and clearer water, making the park a showcase for Chengdu's broader wetland-recovery efforts and a popular subject for photography. Waterside boardwalks wind along the shoreline, giving close-up views of the reed beds and any waterfowl using the wetland, while cycling paths and open lawns spread across the surrounding land for picnics and exercise. Because the area was only recently developed, the park still feels comparatively uncrowded outside weekends, giving a quieter, more open-feeling alternative to Chengdu's older downtown parks. Amenities include waterside boardwalks, cycling paths, open lawns, and photography viewpoints; food and drink options are limited on-site, so visitors typically bring supplies or eat in Tianfu New Area before or after the visit. The park sits about 18 km from Tianfu Square, roughly 35 minutes by car, and is most easily reached by taking the metro to Chengdu Science City station and walking to the entrance. Boardwalks and lawn paths are flat and step-free throughout.
