Yantai Gold Beach, also known as Golden Sand Beach, is a long stretch of fine sand along the Yellow Sea coast in Muping District, east of downtown Yantai, and it forms the core of the city's main beach-resort strip. Unlike the compact No. 1 Bathing Beach downtown, Gold Beach runs for several kilometers, backed by a landscaped promenade, resort hotels, seafood restaurants and the Sun Tower cultural venue at its center. The sand is notably fine and pale, giving the beach its name, and the shallow, gently sloping seabed makes for calm swimming conditions through the summer season. Public sections of the beach are free to access and walk, while some resort-operated stretches charge for loungers, umbrellas and water-sports equipment. Beyond swimming, the promenade is popular for cycling, evening walks and watching the sunset over the water. A couple of hours covers a swim and a walk along one section of the promenade; a full afternoon allows time to explore multiple sections, including the area near Sun Tower. Summer weekends draw the heaviest crowds to the central sections near the resorts; the quieter eastern and western stretches of the beach see far fewer visitors even in peak season.
