Chanba National Wetland Park

Chanba National Wetland Park sits at the confluence of the Ba and Wei Rivers northeast of central Xi'an, covering an expansive 8,715-acre area of restored wetland, reed channels, and open water that functions as both an ecological reserve and a public recreation park. Entry to the public zones is free, with fees applying separately for the main paid activities: a guided boat tour through the wetland channels at ¥50, bicycle rental for the greenway paths at ¥30 an hour, and a small museum covering the ecology of the river confluence at ¥40, with a combined ticket available for all three at ¥100. The park's six landscape zones range from open reed marsh favored by waterbirds to shaded riverside paths better suited to walking or cycling than boating, and the scale of the site — nearly nine times the size of many central-city parks — makes the bike rental a practical way to cover more ground than walking alone allows. Birdwatching is a genuine draw here, with the wetland habitat attracting migratory species that don't appear in the more manicured central lakes. Reaching the park is straightforward via Subway Line 1 to Chanhe Wetland Park Station, a considerable improvement over the taxi-only access earlier iterations of the park required.
