Xingqing Palace Park Lake

Xingqing Palace Park occupies the former grounds of Emperor Xuanzong's Tang-dynasty residential palace, and its central lake — covering roughly ten hectares within a 150-mu water area — is the largest body of water inside Xi'an's urban core, at the heart of what is also the city's largest park overall. The shoreline is a mix of paved walking paths, willow-lined banks, and garden pavilions rather than sand, and the water itself is calm and enclosed, used almost exclusively for pedal-boat and rowboat rides rather than swimming. Because the park sits close to several university campuses in Beilin District, it draws a steady stream of students and local residents throughout the day, particularly in the early morning for tai chi and group exercise and in the evening for walking and socializing. Historical remnants dot the grounds, including the ruins of the Shen Long Pavilion and other structures tied to the Tang imperial residence, giving the park a layer of historical interest beyond the lake itself. Peony beds and later summer lotus plantings bring seasonal color, with April through August the most visually rewarding stretch. Direct subway access makes this one of the easiest of Xi'an's lake parks to reach, with Line 3 stopping right at the park's edge.
