Niubeiliang National Forest Park Alpine Scenery Trail

Niubeiliang National Forest Park, in Zhashui County, Shangluo, Shaanxi, is reached by about a 1.5-hour drive from downtown Xi'an through the Qinling Tunnel, making it a popular day trip for hikers based in the provincial capital; a scenic-area ticket is required at the park gate, and parking is available near the main entrance. The alpine scenery trail links the Lingniugu Sightseeing Area with the Liuchiling Peak Forest Scenery Area over about 8 km, with the park's elevation ranging from roughly 1,000 m near the entrance to 2,802 m at its highest points, though the developed walking trail covers a more moderate middle band of that range. The path is a mix of maintained boardwalk through boggy alpine meadow sections and dirt or gravel trail through forest, with wooden steps on the steeper stretches; shade is plentiful through the lower forested sections and thins out near the open alpine meadows higher up. Along the route hikers pass sweeping views over rolling sub-alpine grassland, dwarf forest shaped by wind exposure, and rock outcrops that are among the best places in Shaanxi to see turning foliage in autumn. Rest pavilions and signage are placed at intervals, and there is a modest visitor facility near the entrance, but no significant shelter partway along the trail, so a same-day round trip is standard practice. Temperatures at the higher alpine sections drop noticeably compared to the park entrance, even in warmer months, and conditions can turn windy and cold quickly, so layered clothing is advisable regardless of season.
