Huashan West Peak (Lotus Flower Peak) Trail

West Peak, known as Lotus Flower Peak for the petal-like rock formations near its summit, is the most accessible of Mount Hua's five peaks, reached by the West Peak Taiping Cableway from the Donggoukou base station near Huayin, Shaanxi. After the roughly twenty-minute cable car ride to the upper station, the walk to the summit at 2,082 m covers only about 1.5 km and 150 m of elevation gain, following a paved and stone-cut path that is considerably gentler underfoot than the traditional Yuquan Yard stairway used for North Peak. The route passes the Fairy Melon Rock and Zhaiyue Terrace, two well-known formations, before reaching the summit area, which includes a Taoist shrine, a viewing platform, and vendors selling drinks and snacks. Because the cable car does the bulk of the elevation work, this is the peak most visitors reach first, often as a starting point before continuing on foot along the connecting ridge trail toward Central, South, and East Peaks. Some minor scrambling and short chain-assisted sections remain near the summit rocks, but nothing comparable to the exposure on Canglong Ridge toward the South Peak. There is no natural water source on the short summit path, though bottled water is sold near both cable car stations. Weather can change quickly at this elevation, and cable car operations are suspended in high winds or lightning, so hikers should check current operating status before planning a same-day round trip.
