A Buddhist temple beside the Grand Canal with a lively pedestrian street of snacks, shops and tea houses.
Nanchan Temple, in Wuxi's Liangxi District, has stood beside the Grand Canal since the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Today the area around the temple is a pedestrian street lined with shops, tea houses and Wuxi snacks.
The temple has been rebuilt several times; the most recognisable structure is the Miaoguang Pagoda, rebuilt in the late 20th century. The area comes alive in the evening, when street vendors and restaurants stay open, and it links on foot to the Qingming Bridge district.
