Wudang Mountains Golden Peak Trail

The Golden Peak Trail climbs from Nanyan Palace to the summit temple complex atop Tianzhu Peak (1,612m) in the Wudang Mountains, Shiyan, Hubei Province. Hikers reach the Nanyan trailhead via the free scenic-area shuttle bus from the Wudangshan entrance gate; a ticket for the Wudang Mountains Scenic Area (around CNY 245 in peak season, including shuttle) is required before boarding. From Nanyan, the stone-paved pilgrim path climbs roughly 750m over 4km, passing the Taihe Palace gate, the Forbidden City-style Purple Cloud Temple approach, and a string of Ming-dynasty stone archways and shrines set into the cliffs. The surface is worn stone steps throughout, well shaded by pine forest in the lower sections and increasingly exposed to wind near the ridge. Hikers who prefer to shorten the climb can ride the cable car from a midway station to within a short final stairway of the Golden Summit, cutting the round trip to about 2km of walking. Near the top, the path narrows along a stone balustrade with sheer drops on one side before reaching the copper-and-gilt Golden Hall, cast in the Ming dynasty and reassembled at the summit in 1416. There is no natural water source along the route; vendors near Nanyan and at the cable car station sell bottled water and snacks, but nothing is available on the final ascent itself. Toilets and a small rest shelter exist at the cable car's upper station. The recommended turn-around point for hikers short on time is the Taihe Palace courtyard, which offers sweeping views without committing to the full ridge walk.
