Mulan Mountain Sky Ladder Trail

The Mulan Mountain Sky Ladder Trail is set within the Mulan Tianti (Mulan Sky Ladder) Scenic Area in Huangpi District, on the northern outskirts of Wuhan, Hubei Province. Hikers reach the site by direct tourist bus from Wuhan's Hankou Bus Station or by private car or ride-hail from central Wuhan, a trip of roughly 90 minutes to two hours. The 4km round trip climbs about 300m via a series of steep stone stairways carved and built directly into the mountainside, some sections near-vertical and fitted with handrails, giving the trail its name. The stairs are stone throughout, with limited shade in the upper, more exposed sections and denser tree cover lower down. Along the way, hikers pass shrines and viewpoints associated with the legend of Hua Mulan, the folk heroine said to have come from this area, as well as several rest platforms built into switchbacks on the ascent. Because the stairway is steep rather than long, the physical demand comes from sustained vertical climbing rather than distance; visitors with knee or balance concerns often find the descent more taxing than the climb. Water and snacks are sold at stalls near the base and partway up, though nothing is available on the steepest final push to the top viewpoint. The summit area offers panoramic views over the Huangpi countryside and is the natural turn-around point before retracing the same stairway back down.
