Wansheng Ordovician Theme Park & Black Mountain Valley

The Wansheng Ordovician Theme Park and Black Mountain (Heishan) Valley sit about 110 km southeast of downtown Chongqing atop Heishan Mountain in Wansheng District, most practically reached by private car or organized tour coach via the Lanhai and Qiwan expressways in about 1.5-2 hours; long-distance buses to Wansheng town followed by a local taxi up the mountain are a slower alternative. The Ordovician Theme Park is an adventure park built around high-altitude attractions including glass-bottomed bridges, ziplines, aerial rope courses, and viewing platforms over the karst gorge, while Black Mountain Valley, about 20 minutes away by car, offers deep canyon walking trails, waterfalls, and boardwalks through a forested gorge. A one-day itinerary generally covers one of the two parks in depth rather than both at a relaxed pace: Black Mountain Valley in the morning suits travelers who prefer canyon scenery and moderate walking, while the Ordovician Park's aerial courses reward a full day of energy and are best tackled fresh, with several of the glass-bridge and zipline attractions requiring a queue. Food options exist at both park entrances, mainly casual Sichuan-style canteens and snack stalls, though prices run higher than in downtown Chongqing given the remote location. April-October is the main season for the aerial adventure courses and canyon trails, while the park also operates a winter Ice & Snow World with artificial snow attractions from around December through February. Given the distance and the physical demands of the aerial rides and canyon stairs, an early departure from Chongqing (by 8 a.m.) helps ensure enough daylight for both the journey and a full circuit of whichever park is chosen.
